I want to sincerely thank the staff at Capital Veterinary Specialists in Jacksonville for the support they provided our family over the past few days. My son’s Golden Retriever service dog became suddenly and seriously ill, and sadly, he had to be euthanized. The staff handled the entire process with kindness, compassion, and understanding. They gave us a comfortable, peaceful space to say our goodbyes, which meant so much during such a difficult time. Although our family is heartbroken, we are deeply grateful for the care, compassion, and support we received from everyone at Capital Veterinary Specialists.

Awesome experience with Capital Vet Specialists! Dr. Hartfield saw our French bulldog and quickly determined there was likely a foreign object in our pup’s GI tract. He had been vomiting, refusing food (even peanut butter) and had diarrhea after our regular vet did not see any obstruction on the X-rays. We are so grateful to Dr. Hartfield for her expertise and guidance during a very stressful time.

Excellent service. The Doctor helped me feel comfortable with options for my pet having a terrible time with his reaction to his 7th chemo treatment. Testing was performed to help me understand his bloodwork and things I can do for at home comfort care. I’m grateful to all involved. I’m glad to know your location. I had no idea you are so close and open 24/7. Pet parents need that comfort. Thank you!

So pleased with my experience with this clinic. My weiner had stage 4 IVDD. They got him in for same day surgery. They are so kind. You can visit your furbaby at any hour of the day. They call with updates. The surgeon even calls with updates. Once you go home they call to check on your furbaby. My furbaby is progressing nicely and I pray I never need their services again but it's a comfort to know they are there 24/7.

I wanted to brag about Capital. We took our dog there last weekend for abdominal pain and found out he was covered in cancer. We decided to put him down. They allowed us to spend lots of time with our dog. They had a front room with lots of treats and was set up very cozy. When it came time to put him down the gave him propofol to calm him before they gave him the medication to stop his heart. He was so peaceful. About 3 days later we received a card from the clinic with a nose print and paw print. My kids loved seeing this. It was so very thoughtful. A few days after that we received his ashes. The box is so nice. It also came with hair clippings and a hard paw print. So thoughtful. Everything was so nice, as nice as it could be. They went above and beyond.

The entire staff at CVS are exceptional! From Tiffaney at reception to the Techs ~ Nikki, Teresa, & Salena to Dr. Vansickle, Dr. Bloom, and Dr. Hartfield who all treated my 13 yr old Kitty, Finxie, for a severe UTI and recurring diabetes. These doctors are truly Angels on earth. I really needed the calm, attentive, and compassionate demeanor Dr. Vansickle provided after arriving from our regular Vet's office. Each doctor called daily with updates, discussed her treatment plan, and encouraged me to visit her during her 2 night/3 day stay. Now, after 2 weeks of oral antibiotics and going back to 2x daily insulin shots, Finxie is thriving. We're so grateful for the incredible care she was given. Thank you all for doing what you do, every day!

Our lab recently had a TPLO surgery done at Capital veterinary. Dr. McCarthy was his surgeon (Go Vols!) Before the surgery our pup had extremely limited mobility and his playful, happy spirit was lost. After the surgery and quicker than expected recovery time, we have our fun-loving, high-spirited dog back. We cannot be more grateful for the exceptional care that our baby received by all of the staff. When we had post-surgical concerns, they were all very quick to respond and get us in to ensure a full recovery. They always followed up to check on our baby and truly treated our baby like he was one of their pets. We are so impressed with this team and I would definitely recommend them for your pets emergency and specialty care!!

We took our male cat in the middle of the night to the Animal Hospital with a medical emergency. He had to spend three nights at the hospital and they took excellent care of him. The doctors called me at least twice a day with updates and everyone was very kind and helpful. If you have an emergency situation, I definitely would recommend this emergency veterinarian.

My baby was rushed to Capital in need of a specialist on a rainy Friday night and we were not given much hope that she would love after Ingesting an object that had cause a serious obstruction for several days. Dr McCarthy saved her life but not just that, the techs and doctors in the days after that took every one of my calls. They allowed me to come and lay with her on a few occasions for serval hours where they bright in blankets and we laid nose to nose. I will never be able to express my gratitude. 🙏

I can’t say thank you enough to Capital Veterinary Specialists for the incredible care they gave my sweet boy, Petey, who is about to turn 12. What started as a very scary situation quickly turned into a story of hope because of their team. Petey had a splenic mass that was actively leaking blood and causing internal bleeding. Thanks to the skill and quick action of Dr. McCarthy and his amazing staff, the entire mass was successfully removed. Today, Petey is happy, healthy, and recovering so well—and that’s truly because of the compassion, professionalism, and expertise we experienced every step of the way. They didn’t just treat a patient—they cared for a family member. I’m beyond grateful and would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who wants the very best for their pets. Thank you for giving my boy more time and more tail wags 🐾❤️
